Ayn Rand writes: “Everything we are and everything we have comes from a single attribute of man – the function of his reasoning mind”
I like the language, the stories, the philosophy, the layout, the characters of Ayn Rand’s novels. And so I will come back again and again to quote her. She writes here about the function of man’s reasoning mind. Reason – something that makes man the supreme creation of God, if we believe in Him. But even if we are atheists, we will have to acknowledge the power of energy that coarse through all living beings. That energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. It can only change its form from one to the other.
There are evidences that tell us that man is the supreme creature from the fact that man has brought development. No animal has developed so much as man. He has invented, discovered and improvised things to make life more comfortable and progressive. Every new generation will build on the things given by the older generation. They get the raw material from the earlier generation. They have two options: either they become better than what was earlier or worse than what was earlier. One step front or one step back.
If we look at the world in the 21st century, we see great changes in the way we think, act, plan, imagine and live. Majority of the things man has devised can be safely termed as progressive; one step in front….better than what the earlier generation gave us. We have mobiles, laptops, tabs, Artificial Intelligence, Alexa. We have mind blowing techniques in the field of medical sciences. Life expectancy has increased leading us to consider ourselves better than the rest of the animal kingdom.
And so it is upto man to show how green his brain is and how blue his heart is! Let me tell you what I mean. The colour ‘green’ symbolises the greenery, growth, abundance, nature as nurturer etc. And the colour ‘blue’ symbolizes depth, purity, vastness of the sea and the sky. The more pure the environment, the more green the trees and the more blue the sky and water. Likewise, the more pure our thoughts, the more true would our actions be. It is upto us to keep nature with its flora and fauna happy and growing.
In the same way, the office environment also needs to be clean, pure, healthy and happy. It is easier said than done. We cannot control or change other people. They can be our family members or our colleagues. When we join the office as employees, we unknowingly carry on what is given to us by the earlier employees. In the process of being an employee, we pass on what we have to the juniors. Why not pass on all that is best and in the interest of the office? So that the next in line would improvise and grow? Why not leave all the pollutants: disputes, failures, enmity, jealousies and schematic thoughts, out of our microcosm?
Can we do it? If we consciously try it, we will surely be able to move on rather than get stuck up with the negativities. Man must use his reasoning ability to think what is best for him. Keep the minds green and the hearts blue!
Share your acts of wisdom; small or big, doesnt matter….. what matters is that you have understood the essence of our existence. It is not in materialism but in nurturing all that is good!
