Philosophy: Dialogue of the Self and Soul

Self to Soul: Share the experiences of your journey till now.

Soul to Self: I do not remember in terms of individual experience. See what you are and understand that this was gathered on the way. What you do now, will also be recorded. The unnecessary was sifted and picked before finally embarking on the journey further.

Self to Soul: Okay. What about when you first started? How were you then?

Soul to Self: There is no beginning, no middle and no end. The individual responses has given me a collective identity.

Self to Soul: What happened when some one sinned? Was that too recorded?

Soul to Self: For those who realize the sin, the recording was easy. The realization was taken as an action worthy of praise. For those who neither understood nor repented their wrongdoing, there was a lot of trouble. There was the cleaning process, then the drying, then the dividing and then the picking. But I succeeded in each one of the task.

Self to Soul: Don’t you get tired of it all? Why would you alone go on doing it?

Soul to Self: There is no application of mind. There is only call of duty. If my mind is used, it will give me opinions, Self -doubt will creep in. This is denied to us. 

Self to Soul: Whence from here?

Soul to Self: There is only a forward journey to a higher self, leaving everything behind.

Self to Soul: Till when?

Soul to Self: Till a point is reached where the incarnated neither wishes anything nor leaves anything behind; till it has all the answers it wishes for and then wishes no more. Till it is ready to become me. Till the distinction of a Self and the Soul ceases to be.

Self to Soul: Where do you place me? You have known me since my birth.

Soul to Self: No, I have known you all along. You are the product of all that has been experienced by you in your previous births. The wisdom you have now is not yours alone. It is the cumulative effect of the past births. The fears, and there are still plenty within you, are all of the past failures. There is fear of getting killed by a more powerful being. There is fear of not getting enough to eat. There is fear that someone else might get more than you. There is fear of the elements like water, fire, earth and air. There is a fear of loneliness and end. For no one told you that you are never alone. This concept of being ‘alone’ is denied. It is all an extended network of beings, not separated from anything. No one told you that you get what you deserve and all happens according to a set plan.

Self to Soul: Oh! So I have not learnt anything? Least of all, to conquer my fears? Something that was there at the beginning of mankind, am I carrying the same fear inside me even now? What is the use of taking births then?

Soul to Self: Yes and No. All that is primal, is carried by you at the beginning of every journey, every new venture. When you want to study a new course, or choose a new job, or choose a partner or change your profession, or do nothing but loll, the fears grip you from all directions and you do not act. You remain where you are: in the same house, with the same partner, doing the same job, in the same environment. You are unable to help yourself.

The moment you take a decision and act on it, you kill the fear. You not only rescue yourself from the fear but also your future births too. Never again would the same fear grip your mind and force you to live the same way. You learn by acting on your thoughts.

Self to Soul: You give me hope to do good and be fearless.

Soul to Self: You are born to do that. Till you be good and fearless, you will not be forced to continue on this journey of self knowledge. By being and doing ‘good’, you will get the answer to the ques: Why have I taken birth? It is to do good so that the other beings on the earth will find their life bearable because you are contributing to their wellness. And by being ‘fearless’, you will know how to do the good, for to do good, one needs courage. To behave like no one has ever done.

Self to Soul: What would you suggest then?

Soul to Self: Always look back to see how far you have come. And also forget about it, the moment you turn to look ahead. Only then will you move ahead.
