This essay is addressed to those pious worshippers of mortal Gods, those who pick up the Gods and Goddesses that dwell in seats of ministers, MLAs and MPs and worship them with all their heart and soul and are ready to troll, thrash and kill anyone who offends their faith or their Gods.
This is a rising trend lately, talking anything about ruling parties has all of a sudden become equivalent to speaking against God or nation in medieval ages. Since when did we elevate our politicians to the stature of Gods or Kings of the entire nation?
Or is it simply about power-grabbing? After all the most devout worshippers of the mortal Gods were and are notorious for all types of social ills- dowry, killing female fetuses, bribe, communal riots or merciless bullying in name of religion, superstitions and other social vices, name them and most probably you will find them in the worshippers of mortal Gods, so, this devotion may be a way of grabbing power and sending India back to medieval ages when they were the big cheese of the country.
Those who feel miffed about impudent leftists and troublemakers chose to ignore a simple reality, it is us, people who pay the salaries of every single minister and MP, MLA of this country, that is they draw a salary from the money collected from people in the name of various taxes so it is quite in the arena of public right to criticize them just the way they want to. They can stop drawing their salaries and taking the benefits attached to their seat and live off their extra incomes, which they certainly can, in that case public will throw them out because they won’t be able to explain the source of their luxurious lifestyles. But as long as they are enjoying the lavish benefits of MLA, MP and ministers they are servants of the public.
If most of you don’t like something your maid or chauffer doing you firmly believe it is your full right to put them in their place, even if they may not be in fault. Please go ahead and lie and tell everyone how sweetly you treat your maid and chauffer but everyone knows the truth. Sorry to break your devoted hearts but the same thing applies for politicians too. The public has full right to criticize them whenever they want to, about whatever they want to, if it is not right why don’t the worshippers point out the faults? In place of labeling them as leftists or calling their criticism as act of treasons they should point out the faults in their words or share the services done by their Gods or prove what lies they are telling! Go ahead!
As for me I firmly believe that it is absolutely within my right to criticize the politicians whenever they fail to do their duty to public and I am going to practice it in future too, but I am always open to eye-opening truth and accept sheepishly or politely that I was wrong. But it will have to be truth and substantially backed by facts too to convince me that it is truth!
So, the worshippers of politicians, the privileged class shoot me with truth backed by facts!
Don’t try to label me as anti-Hindu because you will end up in a foot in mouth position [I and my family have been devout Hindu long before your ancestors could write the word I believe, say for last 500 years or so, my family has been building temples, establishing Brahmins by giving them land and holding puja every year in the temples [on daily basis] and home [during occasions] [following orthodox Hindu rules]. My family is devout Hindu not fanatic who spill blood in name of religion or hide their incompetency behind religion. I personally may end up teaching a thing or two to these hyper Hindus of present time about Hinduism, even though I am not an expert but I can hear them on loudspeakers talking about Hinduism, Hindu Gods and too many of them sound hilarious with their lack of knowledge.
You should be shattered to pieces to know that I am not a leftist either, I hate communism, tsk tsk, and I openly criticize it!
I am what you can most probably never be, a human being who cares for those who can’t take care of themselves, speak for those who can’t speak for themselves and that I will continue to do, even if it is absolutely reward-less. I will always hope and pray for a country where people of all religion can live together in harmony and everyone has a decent income and good education and I will do my bit to make that happen too!

“What Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow” was once upon time a revered fact by Bengalis. But look at the present situation of this state, no infrastructure, no jobs, no economic growth, finally it is “Waste Bengal”. However, the so called intelligentsia, are still trapped in this old saying. They do not want to even recognize the problem of their own state, and keep giving sermons to India (what they call Hindustan, i.e., the rest of India excluding west Bengal state). They will never miss an opportunity to show off how much they prioritise logic over everything else. But they… Read more »
Typical whataboutism!!
No. It is meliorism! It is the belief the Indians have that you guys can still improve and we can aid to the betterment. Get well soon.
Excellent points!
The sheer hard work and not harvard has brought us to our knees and next year Bangaladesh will India in GDP per person.
Studying helps, should study once in a while (Not WhatsApp messages).
Truth bites hard. Doesn’t it.
So at least you agree that they are doing hard work
Vishal Mehta tussi great ho!!!!!! Agree 100% with you
Mam, your question is relevant. Since when have we raised our politicians to the level of Gods…. And the answer is since the Congress party has deified their leaders after the first half of the 20th century. Dr Ambedkar was also of the opinion that we should stop hero worship in the political arena. And precisely so, Shri Narendra Modiji has from the start maintained the position of being the Pradhan Sevak of the people of the world’s largest democracy!!! I rever him for all that he embodies.
Yet to see him act like a Pradhan Sevak…
Also we need a Pradhan Mantri not a Pradhan Sevak. A Pradhan Mantri who has a capable set of ministers who are consulted to form a decision which is best for the nation.
Make In India / Local for Vocal are good as a catch phrase but don’t take a nation forward.
Then what takes the nation forward?
Last checked – we elected a Government to plan for that. If common citizen had to do it and had the power to do it – why pay for their luxury?
P.S. Start with social harmony & appreciation for dissent, for a start. Ohh and restoration of the 4 pillars of democracy,
I agree with you that worshipping the leaders is a bad omen for democracy. As a race, we Indians are conditioned for worship. We always need an idol. But we should be optimistic. We are still good as a democratic nation.
Oh yes… we still have elections!!😂😂
Thank you for reading the article and sharing your views. Just a little food for your thoughts, in case you think I am not educated enough to know what is happening in my own country. The words of a nobel prize winner economist.

This is a global phenomena and not restricted to India. It looks like the human civilization is heading for it doom.
But on the bright side – the oldest democracy has rejected this.
Well said. We turn men into gods and then complain.
We should not forget that politicians are power players not messiah.
Anyone who speaks against these gods are fallen.
Loved it.
Well said.
